The SIMply Better Lean Office®

Day One >>> Simulation

This 8-hour, hands-on introductory workshop will allow participants to learn and directly apply lean principles to a typical office environment. The simulation format will quickly demonstrate how to identify and eliminate 6 types of waste common to most office environments. Through 3 progressive applications (from traditional to more progressively lean) participants will be able to track key performance metrics and experience the impact of creating a lean enterprise from a traditional office setting.

This highly interactive workshop simulates processing orders for a car assembly plant divided into three "simulated days". The "SIMply Better Lean Office" employees (every participant has an assigned job) typically go from losing around $200,000 the first round (in a traditional office setting) to making over $300,000 the last round - a $500,000 swing!

The overall driving message of this simulation is three-fold: first, lean enterprise principles and tools can be applied to office processes and environments to significantly improve performance. Second, that when an organization is highly efficient and effective, it is to everyone’s advantage: the customer, management, and employees. And, third, each individual in an organization can have a positive impact by using the lean tools in their process.
Day Two – Value Stream Mapping Workshop (VSM)
>> Current Actual Process
a) Introduction and overview of value stream mapping.
b) Current-State relevant key process mapping
c) Application of Lean Enterprise Tools learned from Day One SIMulation

Day Three - Value Stream Mapping Workshop
>> Ideal Actual Process
a) Future-State ‘Ideal Lean World’ mapping.
b) Further application of Lean Enterprise Tools learned from Day One SIMulation
c) Identification of actual annualized savings
d) Development of implementation plan framework.
e) Identification of actual next steps

Deliverables of Value Stream Mapping sessions:
- Develop an actual strategic lean implementation plan that identifies and eliminates waste and decreases business process flow throughput time for a current relevant process
- Learn the basic mapping concepts, icons and map layout in a hands-on workshop manner
- Develop participants’ ability to ‘see the flow’ of a value stream and design an improved ‘future state’ that identifies and eliminates waste and decreases throughput time.
- Construct both a current and future state map for a current relevant process
- A take-away Value Stream Map and action step implementation plan
- Actual annualized savings

Day Four Option >> Follow Up Support/Coaching

Seven Pines will hold two, half-day sessions with the VSM implementation group to:
- review progress, metrics, projected savings
- identify obstacles - get process back on track
-facilitate modification/further refinement of Ideal VSM
- re-energize group
- reinforce desired behaviors
- prepare to report out to Senior Management
